It is invigorating to see someone as talented as James, sharing and inspiring his students to push themselves and experience the wonder that is creation …

Clark Cunningham
Director – New York School of Art

Yesterday's class was beyond fabulous. The superb teaching, the
attention, expertise, encouragement you give to each of us;
your beautiful energy which suffuses the room; your paintings everywhere which are sheer delight; the hilarity at certain times; the talent! My God! No wonder we adore being there.

Many, many thanks for everything.

James Picard: Painting the line Between Life and Death
A Biography by Shelley Ross

James Picard’s students describe him as gregarious, generous with his time and perpetually humourous. Yet, over his lifetime, Picard, an accomplished Canadian artist, has experienced childhood violence, addiction, poverty, chronic pain and the loss of many close to him. Through it all, he has known his purpose for being on this planet and has never stopped painting. He has achieved awards for his art and honours both for his teaching of New York inner city students and his work with kids with cancer.

In this insightful book, Shelley Ross tells Picard’s moving story and delivers his poignant messages to a wider audience. Picard urges us all to focus on our passion instead of chasing money and to help children in need. He puts out a call to artists to raise the bar in their work and to follow their creativity rather than the market. Picard’s words hold weight because he lives what he speaks, working passionately to make the most of each moment and creating a legacy of paintings to leave behind. His inspirational story may well spark your own ideas for pursuing your life’s purpose.
