| He left for Paris when he was nineteen,
where he struggled to survive as an artist, almost starving to death
on a number of occasions. Owning only one pair of shoes allowed
only either his girlfriend or himself to leave the studio during
the cold months of the year. Nevertheless, he never stopped creating,
working through his blue and rose periods and eventually moved into
Cubism where people thought he had finally snapped and gone to far.
When he painted his now famous "Les Demoiselles d'Avignon",
friends thought they would find him hanging behind the large canvas.

From there he went on to challenge the art world in every way
imaginable, breaking all the rules and opening doors for a new way
of thinking and seeing. Never resting, he worked feverishly throughout
his life and left behind a legacy of gigantic proportions and has
had influence on every artist that has come after him.
